Boosting R&D in biotechnology and life sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate

Rhineland-Palatinate is a biotechnology region combining a long tradition in basic research with innovative applications. Established and emerging companies as well as non-profit research institutions and universities are located in this country defining an environment which will be developed a leading site in the field of biotechnology and life sciences.
RLP invests in infrastructural expansion to boost its attractiveness as a biotechnology location for research and development in a substantial manner. At the same time the state is focused on the education of skilled workers and experts required to match the demand of the job market. At the present more than € 100 million are invested in life sciences and biotechnology measures in addition to funding for basic research at the universities.
The key to success is people committed to the location - above all: highly qualified young scientists and students, who are trained in an internationally competitive environment. Furthermore, visible functions and structures have been initiated and positions were filled with leading personalities: the Biotechnology Coordinator of the State Government, Prof. Dr. Eckhard Thines, the pilot for Artificial-Intelligence in life sciences, Prof. Dr. Stefan Kramer, the Advisory Board for Biotechnology, and the Biotechnology Academy at the interface between education and business demands.
