Innovation Management – From Idea to Application

The strategic goal of Innovation Management at the DKFZ is to transfer excellent research into first class applications to benefit patients and society. The IM team closely collaborates with our scientists, providing professional expertise. To prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, we are building bridges between science and markets, driving technological innovation forward in a sustainable way. We are combining expertise in the following fields:


Patents & Technical Contracts: We protect DKFZ’s intellectual property, we manage a robust portfolio of over 300 patents and 160 active licensing agreements

Spin-offs & Equity: We empower researchers to launch successful spin-offs supported by the H3 Health Hub entrepreneurship initiative. In the past four years, DKFZ Innovation Management has propelled 8 spin-offs to success. Examples: Heidelberg Epignostix GmbH, Panosome GmbH,  aiPTO TechBio GmbH.

Business Development: We build strong partnerships with industry and academia to bring innovations to market, such as beLAB2122, Bayer AG and Beiersdorf AG.
Portfolio Management & Product Development: We drive high-potential projects from research to application. Highlights: HPV Vaccine (Gardasil®, Cervarix®) and PSMA617 (Pluvicto®)
